Could you trace the tomcat redirection by wireshark and find where the break is occurring.
It might give us some insghts. It also can happen that the DMZ accepts only a single URL to work any small changes that would have had happened might block it out. This is only a guess, but atleast the trace can help us know where we have the packet loss.
